Top 10 Most Expensive Armored Cars

Top 10 Most Expensive Armored Cars

Ultra-Armored Cars

Luxury sports cars are the favorite choice of celebrities. But for some celebrities, their fame comes with the price of their own security. For this reason, there are some wealthy people who invest in expensive armored cars.

Here are the best high-end armored cars that money can buy:

10. The Tumbler: The Dark Knight’s Newest Batmobile

Rubens Alarcon / Shutterstock.com

This armored car exists in the realm of fantasy but when it was produced for the Batman sequel The Dark Knight Rises, it inspired crazy aspirations among hardcore Batman fans. The Tumbler has a HM 5-liter Vauxhall engine with jet engine boosters. The Tumbler also has auto-cannons in its nose. It may not withstand all types of RPGs, but it has the motorcycle-like Batpod as insurance embedded within the car.

This armored car can be built but vehicle engineers peg the price in the range of millions of dollars. Via: therichest.org

9. The Dartz Kombat T98 SUV: $200,000

The Russian-made Dartz Kombat T98 is technically a sports utility vehicle. But it really looks more like a tank. It looks like a Hummer with heavy steel plated doors and 7cm thick windows that can repel AK-47s and even rocket-propelled grenades.

It is powered by a monstrous 8.1 liter Vortec V8 that can sustain speeds of 180 kilometers per hour even with all its weight. Dartz has had a long history when it comes to armored cars dating back to World War I. Via: therichest.org

8. Cadillac One: $300,000

You’ve probably heard of Air Force One, the airplane used by the President of the United States of America for international travels. It has a land vehicle counterpart in the Cadillac One. But this privileged limousine is more than mere looks. It is heavily armored and its details are highly classified, leading some funny observers to joke that the Cadillac One can withstand a direct hit from a nuclear warhead.

For the estimated price of $300,000, the Cadillac One features a diesel-powered V8 6.6L turbo 300hp diesel. When in a presidential convoy, the Cadillac One has many other decoys to confuse potential threats. Via: therichest.org

7. Conquest Knight XV: $310,000

Seen by many as a “Hummer Killer,” the Conquest Knight XV is built of hardened steel with Kevlar-fiberglass fenders and bumpers. Even the wheels are impervious to damage because it is made of forged 6061 aluminum. Its engine is either a GM V8 6-liter 325-horsepower gasoline or a Cummins ISB 6.7-liter diesel. Its top speed can reach 153 miles per hour even with all its weight. Via: therichest.org

6. Popemobile: $311,000

The Popemobile cost $311,000 but its value goes beyond that because of the passenger it serves. This vehicle is bulletproof and can withstand all forms of biological and chemical attacks. Even if it gets flat tires, it can still speed through seventy miles per hour. It runs on a Mercedes Benz V8 5-liter gasoline engine that can speed up from zero to 60 miles per hour in just six seconds. Via: therichest.org

5. BMW 7 Series High Security: $350,000

BMW is a high-end luxury brand for vehicles but they can pack a punch as well with their armored 7 Series High Security. BMW believes this car is German engineering at its finest because its added weight does not not affect the handling and acceleration of the car.

The High Security can repel high velocity projectile weapons and chemical attacks. It even has its own gas tank that can seal itself again when hit by a bullet. Its engine is no slouch as well because its V12 6-liter, 535-horsepower gasoline engine can accelerate from zero to 60 miles per hour in just six seconds. Via: therichest.org

4. Maybach 62S with Armor from Rijck: $352,000

Maybach cars are already expensive as it is. But when the famous Swiss armoring company Rijck integrates its inputs to the Maybach, expect it to be very expensive. Rijck has created a heavily armored Maybach 62S that can deter a high-powered sniper rifle fire from ten meters away. The engineers were able to accomplish this feat without changing the beautiful exterior and interior design of the Maybach.

It comes equipped with an AMG V12 Biturbo 5980cc 620-horsepower gasoline engine. It accelerates from zero to sixty miles per hour in just five seconds. The price tag for this Maybach-Rijck tandem is $352,000. Via: therichest.org

3. Bentley Mulliner Division with Armor from Mulsanne: $400,000

The Bentley Mulliner Division car is another luxurious model that spikes its price tag to $400,000 when coupled with high-end armor from Mulsanne.

This particular model can withstand high-powered firearms, chemical threats and explosive attacks from all sides. This car can accelerate from zero to sixty kilometers per hour in just five seconds with maximum speed of 184 miles per hour thanks to its Twin Turbocharged 6.7-liter 505-horsepower gasoline engine. Via: therichest.org

2. Audi A8 Security: $685,000 to $1,000,000

The armored Audi A8 Security is a sweet package wrapped in steel, titanium and Kevlar that makes it invincible to high-powered firearms. It can also protect against fire and chemical attacks.

Its W12 450b-horsepower gasoline engine can zip from zero to 100 kilometers per hour in less than five seconds! This car can be worth as much as a million dollars! Via: therichest.org

1. Mercedes Benz S-Guard 600: $1.4 million

Not to be outdone, Mercedes Benz has their own line of luxurious armored cars in the S-Guard 600 worth over $1.4 million. This model can resist close range sniper fire, rocket propelled grenades and high velocity projectiles. Its twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V12 517-horsepower gasoline engine can zoom from zero to 60 miles per hour in just four seconds.  Via: therichest.org

The Top 10 Most Popular Hybrid Cars

The Top 10 Most Popular Hybrid Cars

With the ever growing clamor for the use of sustainable energy in order to help save our environment, the use of electric cars have slowly but surely gained traction and acceptance in modern society. In some advanced countries, there are actually already public charging stations strategically located right in the middle of some streets that would allow an electric car to recharge.

Electric vehicles have been around since the middle part of the 1800s. Robert Davidson of Scotland was able to build an electric locomotive as early as 1838 that reached a speed of only about 4 miles per hour. Another Scotsman, Robert Anderson, was also able to invent the first crude electric carriage around that time.

There are three main types of electric vehicles, namely (a) those directly powered from an external power station, (b) those powered by stored electricity originally from an external power source, and (c) those powered by an on board electrical generator.  The last one is commonly called a hybrid electrical vehicle. It combines a conventional internal combustion engine propulsion system with an electric propulsion system.

The first hybrid of gasoline and electricity was a Porsche, specifically the Lohner Porsche Mixte Hybrid. Ferdinand Porsche developed it in 1901. Widespread availability of electric cars did not come, however, until 1997 when Toyota released the Prius in Japan.  A couple of years later, Honda came up with the Insight. At first, acceptance was low because of the then low price of gasoline. Increases since that time, as well as the increasing awareness of consumers regarding a vehicle’s effect on an environment, led to more releases in the 2000s. Electric cars have since gone a long way and are now considered constituting a major segment of the industry in the coming years.

The following is a list of the top ten most popular electric cars in the market,

1. Toyota Prius Hybrid – 1,267,166 units sold

Toyota Prius 2010

The Prius is considered to be the first mass-produced hybrid vehicle. It was introduced to the market in 1997 at Toyota’s Japanese dealerships. It is now sold in 80 countries, with the largest markets in Japan and the United States. It started out as a compact sedan before Toyota redesigned it to become a medium sized hatchback vehicle. It has been rated to be among the cleanest cars sold in the U.S. based on emissions that could potentially form smog. Via: therichest.org

2. Honda Civic Hybrid – 214,877 units sold

Honda Civic Hybrid

This is the hybrid power train version of Honda’s similarly named Civic sedan. It was first sold in Japan in 2001 with a five-speed manual transmission. In 2005, this was changed to a continuously variable automatic transmission. A hatchback version has been recently added to the sedan type. It is the first hybrid vehicle to be certified by the Air Resources Board of California to be an Advanced Technology Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle, or AT-PZEV. Via: therichest.org

3. Toyota Camry Hybrid – 213,096 units sold

Toyota Camry Hybrid

The Camry hybrid was introduced in 2006. It can run in a fully electric mode, gasoline only mode, or a combination of the two. It features an electric power steering, brakes and air conditioning that can all be fully operated upon deactivation of the internal combustion engine. Tail lights have been redesigned with LEDs and aerodynamic drag has been reduced. Via: therichest.org

4. Ford Escape/Mercury Mariner Hybrid – 130,691 units sold

Ford Escape

The hybrid version of this compact crossover sports utility vehicle, or SUV, was launched in the Ford Escape in 2004, and in the Mercury Mariner in 2006. It is considered to be the most fuel efficient SUV in the market, averaging 34 miles for every gallon. Via: therichest.org

5. Lexus RX 400h/450h  – 122,493 units sold

Lexus RX 400h

The Lexus RX hybrid has a fuel economy rating of 32 miles per gallon for highway driving, and 30 miles per gallon for city driving, meaning it can go up to ten more miles compared to the non-hybrid version of the vehicle. It produces 245 horsepower at 6,000 rpm. The electric motors and inverter can boost this to up to 297 horsepower.  Its engine has a low compression ratio, along with a high expansion ratio inside the engine’s cylinders. Via: therichest.org

6. Toyota Highlander Hybrid – 118,440 units sold

Toyota Highlander Hybrid

This is the first hybrid vehicle with seven seats. It is based on Toyota’s non-hybrid SUV called the Kluger, though the power steering pump, water pump and air conditioning compressor were all changed from being driven by belts to being powered by electricity. The vehicle’s system is similar to the Lexus RX 400h. Via: therichest.org

7. Honda Insight Hybrid – 75,802 units sold

Honda Insight Hybrid

Often ranged against the Prius because they were the first two hybrid vehicles to come out in the late 1990s, the Insight features superior handling, steering, braking and paddle-shift transmission. It can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 10.3 seconds, and it has a fuel efficiency rating of 38 miles per gallon. Via: therichest.org

8. Ford Fusion/Mercury Milan/Lincoln MKZ Hybrid – 70,536 units sold

Lincoln MKZ Hybrid

It has been awarded as the North American Car of the Year at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in 2010. Its fuel efficiency rating is 47 miles per gallon for combined city and highway driving. All three share the same hybrid power train, making the Fusion, Milan and MKZ hybrid triplets. Via: therichest.org

9. Hyundai Sonata/Kia Optima Hybrid – 43,460 units sold

Kia Optima Hybrid

This car features a 2.4-liter engine with six-speed automatic transmission, 30 kw electric motor and lithium polymer batteries. Fuel efficiency ratings are 37 miles per gallon for city driving and 40 miles per gallon for highway driving. The car is based on Hyundai’s Blue Drive concept. In recent months, the sales of this vehicle have actually surpassed all the other electric cars except for the Prius. Via: therichest.org

10. Nissan Altima Hybrid – 36,609 units sold

Nissan Altima Hybrid

This is the first hybrid car from Nissan. Its system is licensed from the hybrid technology of Toyota, though upcoming models will be developed in house. It produces 158 horsepower, which can be boosted a further 40 horsepower by the electric motor. It is considered to be one of the seven fastest hybrids, going from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 7.1 seconds.

Smallest & Smaller: 22 Miniatures

Everyone always says bigger is better, but sometimes it’s nice to flip expectations on their head and give small a chance. When big gets boring, these are the awesome miniature inventions you need to see.

#8 Miniature Cars

Anyone who has ridden in a mini cooper knows the joy of riding in a powerful light car with enough zoom to zig and zag with the best of them. Why not knock it a down a notch and pick an XXS vehicle for a tour around the town?

#7 Hobbit-sized Homes

(Images via shawnhoganalldoing)Via: weburbanist.com

It’s important for one’s environment and finances not to purchase more square footage than necessary. Just be sure not to take this mentality to an extreme, or one’s home might be a tad too far on the cozy side.

#6 Tiniest in the World

(Images via worldssmallestseriouseatsgirlssecretroom2dayblog)Via: weburbanist.com

While it’s great to be able to ride a miniature scooter, or super small sportster, more mundane objects can be just as intriguing. Anything made small enough is a wonder of artistry, especially when this creation is edible.

#5 Smallest Working Train Models

(Images via telegraphwhiteriverandnorthernblingcheese)Via: weburbanist.com

It’s rare that a train enthusiast has to worry about losing one of their models in a pants pocket, but it would no longer be unheard of. These trains are some of the smallest and to see them in action is a wonder in both model creation and macro camera technology.

#4 A Tiny Trip to the Theater

(Images via ethiopianreviewdaniellemagesamato)Via: weburbanist.com

The world’s smallest cinema only has room for one patron, but that doesn’t make those flicks any less enjoyable, especially with the ability to watch a movie powered by solar panels in the middle of the outdoors. If one would rather take in a small play, head over to England and visit a restroom that’s been converted into a quaint theater.

#2 Mini Motorcycling

(Images via viewgadgetsgamespotloqumjperryfuture-motorcyclesgadgethobby)Via: weburbanist.com

Motorcycles are typically a sign of masculinity and power, which makes miniature bikes that much stranger. It’s no doubt that a ride on one of these tiny powerhouses would be an enjoyable one.

#1 The Tiniest Aircraft

(Images via sportpilotmacandsalschultzairshows) Via: weburbanist.com

For those who hate feeling out of control on a flight, there’s not much more one can do than drive one of these incredibly small aircraft. No one can complain if the room service is poor on one of these flights, that’s for sure.

Classic Dream Cars : Dodge Charger

Dodge ChargerThe Dodge Charger is a U.S. car manufacturer prepared by the Dodge division of Chrysler. There are different Dodge vehicles were on three different platforms, with the Charger nameplate. The name is generally a performance model in the Dodge area, but thinks it has an engine, a sedan and a personal luxury coupe equipped.

The three main iterations of the Dodge Charger built a muscle car produced from 1966 to 1978, a small car from 1983 to 1987 and now sports sedan since 2006.

The name was also on a 1999 concept car that differed substantially from those supplied Charger eventually placed into production for model year 2006. A similar name was used to truck Ramcharger vehicle.

Classic Dream Cars Dodge Charger

The entire B-body lineup for 1968 has been redesigned and the charger was further distinguished from the Dodge Coronet models. Designer Richard Sias developed double-diamond-Cola bottle with the profile of curves around the front fenders and rear windows. Front and rear plate was designed by Harvey J. Winn. The back of a “kick” sees spoiler, inspired by the Group 7 race cars. On the roof of a “flying buttress” was added to the rear window area a look-alike of the 1966-67 Pontiac GTO it. The charger kept his full-length hidden headlight grille, but the fully rotating electric headlights had a simple vacuum cover was replaced. The full length taillights were gone. Instead, two round taillights were taken in the direction of Vice President of Styling, Elwood P. Angel. Dual scallops to the doors and hood to help, added the new lines Swoopy accent. Classic Dream Cars : Dodge Charger

Monday, March 18, 2013

As a tribute to Carroll Shelby and the 1967 Shelby GT500 the United States Post Office will issue a Forever Stamp as part of its ‘Muscle Cars’ issuance of stamps.  The Shelby GT500 stamp was created by Artist Tom Fritz who based his artwork on photographs of the cars. Fritz said he used bright-colored oil paints on hardboard to try to “capture the emotive quality of the vehicles.” Growing up in Southern California, Fritz became familiar with the power of muscle cars and the paintings are “a projection of my memories of the vehicles.”

‘Muscle Cars’ is the third issuance in the America on the Move series. The stamps were designed by art director Carl T. Herrman. The first issuance in the series, 50s Sporty Cars (2005), was followed by 50s Fins and Chrome (2008). The Muscle Cars stamps are being issued as Forever stamps in self-adhesive sheets of 20 (4 of each design). Forever stamps are always equal in value to the current First-Class Mail one-ounce rate.

Other vehicles receiving Forever Stamps include the 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona, 1966 Pontiac GTO, 1970 Chevelle SS and a 1970 Plymouth Hemi Cuda.

The Shelby GT500 stamp will be available for purchase on February 22 at any U.S. Post Office across the country or online at USPS.com.
