But how does it compare to European’s muscle machines? The car magazine EVO wanted to find out, and pitted the only 2013 GT500 in all of England against the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG. The Mercedes is undoubtedly at a disadvantage when it comes to horsepower – packing just 451 horsepower and 442 lb-ft torque, but it also comes with a lighting quick 7-speed automatic transmission. Watch Video! Classic Recreations unveil stunning 1967 Shelby GT500CR

During the 2009 SEMA show, Classic Recreations founder Jason Engel announced plans to work with Shelby American on the first series of officially licensed 1967 Shelby Mustang continuation cars. One year later at SEMA 2010, Engel brought not one but two G.T.500CR customer cars to the show after invitations from Ford Motor Company and Cobra Electronics to display vehicles in the company’s respective booths. The car from the Ford display was also called out as an “Ultimate Street Car” when Optima batteries asked Engel to participate in the annual Optima Ultimate Street Car Invitational (OUSCI) track shootout and television show at Spring Mountain Raceway in Pahrump, Nevada, the Saturday after SEMA.

“Having two customer cars in major booths at the SEMA Show was really a coming out party for the G.T.500CR,” Engel said. “We are in full production and have shipped Shelbys all over the world, but having vehicles in the Ford and Cobra booths, then being chosen to take part in the OUSCI was a great thrill for us. Everyone knows we can build a beautiful car – this was our chance to show that we also build a fast car with the performance and reliability of a modern supercar. I think we proved that at Spring Mountain Raceway and we were truly honored that the crew at Optima chose us out of thousands of vehicles on display at SEMA.”

Both G.T.500CR Shelbys on display at SEMA were 545 horsepower Performance Models, one finished in classic wimbledon white and guards blue, the other featuring a two-tone gloss and matte black paintjob.  Both cars are powered by fuel injected, naturally aspirated, hand-built 427 cubic inch engines. Other features include a Tremec overdrive transmission, modern coil-over suspension with rack-and-pinion steering, modern vented disc brakes, a custom handcrafted interior featuring Carroll Shelby signature seats, custom gauges, brushed aluminum trim, and five-point harnesses. Each car is built by highly trained craftsman in the heart of America and require well over 1,000 hours of manual labor.

The stealth car was a key part of the Cobra Electronic booth display, where it was constantly surrounded by admirers and photographers.  The white car was part of the Ford Heritage Display directly across from the Ford drift exhibition next to the Monster Energy stage, where modern Mustangs demonstrated Ford performance in a cloud of tire smoke.

Saturday after the close of the SEMA Show, the white Shelby competed at the OUSCI in four competitions: autocross, road course, speed stop and engineering. As one of only three Fords in a field of 60 top-tier supercars, the G.T.500CR stood out and made an impression. When the tire smoke cleared, the Shelby finished in the top 20 on the road course.

“The G.T.500CR is meant to be driven,” says Engel. “Although the overall look is vintage Shelby, essentially this is modern sports car technology wrapped in vintage Shelby GT500 sheet metal. We had a blast watching the car do what it was built to do. Classic Recreations offers additional options on all our builds and next year we’re bringing out one of our supercharged, 780 hp “Venom” models with four-link rear suspension and we’ll really show them what we can do.”

The entire Optima event, from the pre-SEMA builds to the awards ceremony, was shot for a national TV show, which will air in early 2011 on a national cable network. Normally when we show you a drag racing video it features something like a Mustang Cobra Jet making a 7 second pass or doing a massive wheelie. This video is a little bit different, though. It comes from RM Auctions, who sells some of the most desirable collector cars in the world including two very rare 1965 Shelby GT350R race cars that were offered in the last year. The auction house found themselves with a pair of cars going up for sale at upcoming auctions – a 1966 Shelby GT350 and a Peel P50 Microcar – and decided to let them settle their differences in a drag race.

The result is…well…predictable with a little bit of humor thrown in.

Shelby Ford Raptor announced

If the standard Ford SVT Raptor seems a bit weak to you, Shelby has just announced their version based on the 2013 version, and it’s a beast. Not that the standard car is a slouch – it has 410 horsepower – but this thing has a colossal, for a pickup truck, 575 horsepower.

 

That power is the result of installing a 2.9 liter supercharger mounted on the 6.2 liter V8 engine. It is distributed between all four wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode. The car is also fitted with 35-inch Goodrich All-Terrain tires and optional custom wheels, so off-roading should be even more fun.

Shelby Raptor is offered as a post title package for $17,995. It is limited to 100 units, each coming with a numbered plaque.

1968 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Convertible

Installed both front shocks (Koni Classic,) air cleaner mounting hardware, air filter, oil pressure sending unit boot, date-coded spark plug wires, one horn (was missing,) radiator fan shroud, transmission pan gasket, the entire exhaust system from the manifolds to the tips, sway bar bracket bushings, power steering hoses, rebuilt power steering “ram,” fuel cap emblem, both power top hydraulic cylinders, both front window cranks, emergency flasher button, driver side vent cable, washer fluid floor pad and the battery.  Tidied up some wiring, made sure all of the lights worked inside and out, and gave the car the once-over.  Being an old car, some of those items are forgivable, but this car must exceed expectations.

When you think of significant muscle cars there are a few cars and names which come to mind. At the top of nearly every list you’ll find one ornery Texan, Carroll Shelby, and his fantastic reinterpretation of Ford’s Mustang. More desirable yet are the convertibles and the big block cars, and this gorgeous Sunlit Gold example here is both. Highly documented, a 25+ year SAAC member car and owned by the same man who took delivery for more than 30 years this show ready example is perfect for any high end collection.

The big three pieces of documentation follow this car: The ORGINAL build sheet, the Marti Report and a copy of the original invoice. Here’s how this car left Metuchen on March 5th, 1968:

When Shelby got done with it there were a pile of changes from the specific bodywork to the rollover bar to the Goodyear Speedway tires to the Stewart Warner “green line” gauges in the center stack. Completed, it went to Pletcher Ford Sales in Jenkintown, PA, where it was picked up on July 22, 1968 by its new owner, James W. Sole.

The build sheet, the copy of the invoice, the original tax form from 1968, receipts for various services throughout the years, the brochures and ads for the car, previous registrations and damn near every SAAC dash plaque and member card he owned are kept. There’s even an autograph from Carroll himself!

You like to see long-term ownership of a car – it means it was something special to the person behind the wheel and not just a toy. Mr. Sole loved the car, and wherever his job took him the Shelby followed. It spent time in Philly, Rochester, NY, Westport, CT, and Palos Verdes, CA before winding up in Rockport, MA. If you’d believe it Jim used the car for his daily transportation through 1989! He retired the car to weekend duty and had the car restored in the next couple of years by specialist Mike White in Bow, Mass. Finished in time for the 1993 show season it took Best Restored Antique at the 1993 Boston World of Wheels show against a ton of competition. Shunning a trailer even after the significant restoration he drove it to the 18th annual Shelby American Auto Club meet and took home silver in class – the highest score handed out for a driven car at the meet. The biggest point deductions? Jim installed a set of Koni shocks and reinstalled the 10 spoke alloy wheels he bought from Shelby in 1981–two big no-no’s in a structured event like that. Out of the 19 points deducted a whopping 13 of them were for the shocks and rolling stock! Suffice to say Mike’s talents and Jim’s dedication produced a gold level vehicle!

Desirable doesn’t always mean rare, and rare doesn’t always mean desirable, but this car is a rare case where both are true. One of only 402 GT500 convertibles produced in 1968, one of 249 with the 428/C6 combo and one of only 82 convertibles (both 350 and 500) in Gold over black. Not as racy as red, not as menacing as black this classic gold beauty speaks to a more refined palette, and is a tough one to find! Movie Cars : Ford Mustang GT500 Elenor Gone in 60 seconds

Gone in 60 Seconds is a 2000 American action film, starring Nicolas Cage, Angelina Jolie, Giovanni Ribisi, Christopher Eccleston, Robert Duvall, and Will Patton. The film was directed by Dominic Sena, and written by Scott Rosenberg. It was produced by Jerry Bruckheimer (The Rock, Armageddon) and is a remake of the 1974 H.B. Halicki film of the same name.

The film was shot in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada and throughout Los Angeles and Long Beach, California.

Randall “Memphis” Raines (Nicolas Cage), a retired master car thief is forced to Los Angeles, California, and his company to steal 50 cars from Friday morning to the British Crime boss Raymond Vincent “Carpenter” Calitri (Christopher Eccleston) back.

Raymond’s younger brother threatens Memphis Kip (Giovanni Ribisi), to kill in his car compressor after Kip and his staff have not to date to provide stolen cars. Memphis quickly with his old crew, including his mentor, Otto (Robert Duvall), the former girlfriend, Sway (Angelina Jolie), “Sphinx” and a few others that he previously worked.

 

With LAPD detective Roland Beck Castle (Delroy Lindo) and his partner, Detective Drycoff (Timothy Olyphant), is in the neck, Memphis decided to steal all the cars in one night, to avoid tipping the police. Theft of the car en masse the night before the deadline, Memphis forced to modify the plan if he Midstream Castle Beck them aware of the dangerous decision to three of the vehicles seized by the police a lot to steal.

In 2002, Carroll Shelby sold a license to a company called Unique Performance in Farmers Branch, Texas, to produce the GT500E, a Shelby based on the “Eleanor” 1967 GT500 featured prominently in the 2000 movie Gone in 60 Seconds, starring Nicolas Cage. Other new Shelbys followed, including the GT350SR and GT500SR. Each of these new Shelbys is given a Shelby VIN

On November 1, 2007, Unique Performance was raided by the Farmers Branch Police Department due to VIN irregularities and subsequently declared bankruptcy, which effectively ended the Shelby continuation “Eleanor” production.

1967 SHELBY GT500 RECEIVES ITS OWN FOREVER STAMP

As a tribute to Carroll Shelby and the 1967 Shelby GT500 the United States Post Office will issue a Forever Stamp as part of its ‘Muscle Cars’ issuance of stamps.  The Shelby GT500 stamp was created by Artist Tom Fritz who based his artwork on photographs of the cars. Fritz said he used bright-colored oil paints on hardboard to try to “capture the emotive quality of the vehicles.” Growing up in Southern California, Fritz became familiar with the power of muscle cars and the paintings are “a projection of my memories of the vehicles.”

‘Muscle Cars’ is the third issuance in the America on the Move series. The stamps were designed by art director Carl T. Herrman. The first issuance in the series, 50s Sporty Cars (2005), was followed by 50s Fins and Chrome (2008). The Muscle Cars stamps are being issued as Forever stamps in self-adhesive sheets of 20 (4 of each design). Forever stamps are always equal in value to the current First-Class Mail one-ounce rate.

Other vehicles receiving Forever Stamps include the 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona, 1966 Pontiac GTO, 1970 Chevelle SS and a 1970 Plymouth Hemi Cuda.

The Shelby GT500 stamp will be available for purchase on February 22 at any U.S. Post Office across the country or online at USPS.com.

2013 SHELBY GT500 SUPER SNAKE ‘WIDE BODY’ DEBUTS IN DETROIT

There was a lot of hype and buildup about the Shelby American debut in Detroit and they sure delivered with a new 2013 Shelby GT500 Super Snake ‘Wide Body’.  The GT500 Super Snake Wide Body represents the pinnacle of what Shelby American has to offer in the post-title arena.

As an added option to its Super Snake post-title package lineup the ‘Wide Body’ option will allow for up to 13-inch rear and 10-inch front wheels.  The massive tires will help put all of the 850 horsepower to the pavement as it screams down the road like a true supercar.

The price for the ‘Wide Body’ option will run you $17,995 in addition to the $39,995 (850 hp) option for the Super Snake package.  Those prices don’t include a base GT500 which can run you around $54,650.  All told expect to pay upwards of $112,000 for a 2013 GT500 Super Snake with the Wide Body option.  Not a bad deal if you consider other exotics with less horsepower cost over $200K.

1966 Ac Shelby Cobra 427 S C Expensive Classic Car

Of all the Cobra variants the 427 Semi/Competition or S/C is the most desirable series. Built from Shelby’s competition production line, these were purposeful race-cars that were prepared at the last minute for the road.

The story of the Cobra begins as early as 1959 when Carol Shelby raced for Aston Martin, winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Along the way he probably took notice of a well performing AC Ace that would become a foundation for his next venture.

After quitting racing, he return to America to build his own sportscar, turning to Charles Hurlock of AC Cars to supply a chassis and body that was suitable for the new 260 cubic inch Ford V8. After considerable racing success, Ford provided the even larger 427 FE engine. By 1965, chief engineer Ken Miles wanted to fit thengine to win SCCA’s A Production Class and stay ahead of the Corvette Grand Sport.

MUSCLE CAR CONCEPT: SHELBY COUPE

At this year’s SEMA show there were lots of pretend muscle cars on display, many of them from the big automakers (Ford, for example, had an excess of 70 vehicles at the show). In reality these were ordinary production vehicles overly accessorised with go-faster stripe stickers, oversized alloy wheels and garish stick-on plastic bodykits. Real muscle cars do not exist anymore – except in the minds of designers that is.

Sabino Leerentveld is a young Dutch industrial designer who, like most designers, ofttimes enjoys experimenting and playing with conceptual designs in his downtime.

As an unapologetic hyper-muscle car design, his Shelby Coupe concept bears many of the hallmarks that you would expect on a typical Shelby-tuned Mustang or Dodge.

But Sabino tells us that the car’s styling actually evolved without any kind of focus on aesthetic refinement. Instead, he deliberately pursued a vision of something really old school, with fat tires, and exaggerated if not extreme muscularity. Precisely the same approach as your average SEMA entrant then, only with a far more successful end product.

Although this particular project initially started life as a mere exercise in CAD surface modelling, the end result is a full-blown tribute to Carroll Shelby-esque muscle cars – and a design that the likes of Ford and Chrysler, as overtly corporatised bodies, simply would not have the courage or audacity to produce (even as a one-off SEMA-type showcar).

So, rather sadly, concepts such as Sabino’s Shelby Coupe continue to exist only in the digital realm.

The ’69 GT500 you see here is being sold by the original owner with a mere 62,000 miles on the clock.  After being purchased new, the Shelby was driven until the 80′s when it began to have some minor issues.  The car has been stored in a garage since, untouched.
