I-70 may seem meaningless on this list because so many use it on a daily basis today. Still, this roadway was one of the single largest projects in the history of the United States Government.

Mount Rushmore’s concept as a monument carved from stone is neither new nor innovative. However, due to the scale of the massive monument and the fact that it was carved into the side of a mountain, this national monument awes and inspires visitors every day.

While the Colosseum itself is surely impressive, it is not listed here for the structure alone. It is rather listed due to its importance to and as an icon of the Roman Empire, one of the greatest influencers on Western Culture today.

Burj Khalifa is currently the tallest building in the world. Located in Dubai it has outflanked many other buildings in man’s need to always reach greater heights. Undoubtedly, one day another building will replace it on this list.

Considered one of the greatest wonders of the world, the Sphinx is an iconic Egyptian stone monument. Built thousands of years ago, it is still standing today and is one of the oldest structures created by man still standing beside the pyramids.

Giving us insight and the belief in a universe and world beyond our own, the Hubble telescope has served as dreams made visible. We couldn’t imagine exploring other planets without it today.

The single largest manmade structure on the planet, the Great Wall of China can be seen from space in two of our previously mentioned wonders. The wall is so massive that almost nothing would be able to destroy this impressive ode to man kind’s need for remembrance and glory.
Adding beauty and functionality to the world could be one of our inspirations. However, more often than not, the reason man works so hard to complete a seemingly difficult task is often just to see if he could.
